Our Year 8 pupils took part in the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) 2025. As part of this initiative, they produced an informative video on how to properly separate batteries and e-waste in our school. They also learned about the Recyklohry project, through which we have been handing over small electrical appliances for a long time and organising a school collection of old mobile phones. During the activity we also focused on waste sorting in Žilina and looked for other alternatives to reduce waste – from simple repairs of broken devices to responsible purchase of refurbished mobile phones (e.g. through Swappie). The project also included a Myth or Fact section where pupils tested their ideas about recycling. For example, they learned that up to 90% of the materials in a mobile phone can be recycled, including metals such as copper, aluminium and gold. The activity taught pupils to look for sustainable solutions and to be aware of their personal impact on the environment.
