Our school and the use of artificial intelligence

Our school is one of the progressive institutions that systematically introduce digital innovations and modern technologies into education. We see the use of artificial intelligence (AI) not only as a trend, but as a natural part of the future of education. We strive to make the most of the possibilities that AI offers – from the creation of working materials and interactive tasks, to supporting pupils in their learning, to effective teacher training.
Our goal is to make AI a practical tool for pupils and teachers alike, developing creativity, fostering critical thinking and opening up new horizons of knowledge. At the same time, we strive to be an example of good practice for other schools and actively contribute to the spread of innovation in Slovak education.

AI Days - Artificial Intelligence at the Service of Education

Our school has received support from the AI days development project, announced by the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic. Thanks to this, we became a promo school that:

  • presents practical applications of artificial intelligence in the classroom,
  • creates inspiring examples of good practice,
  • fosters professional debate on the opportunities and risks of AI in the school environment,
  • and above all, it opens its doors to teachers from other schools who want to see artificial intelligence in action.

Our project day is called AI for Good – Artificial Intelligence in Service of a Better World. It emphasises that technology should have not only a practical but also a societal dimension – helping to expose misinformation, protect cultural heritage, promote empathy and lead to responsible use of digital tools.

The event will take place on 22 October 2025 from 8:00 am (Wednesday) with the participation of guests (practising teachers) and staff from our school.

Programme:

  • 8:00 – 12:30 … 5 open classes
  • 13:00 – 13:30 … Lecture titled AI as a Teacher and Student Helper
  • 13:30 – 14:00 … Panel Discussion on Safety of Using AI in School

AI Agenda of the Day

The AI days will consist of the following activities:

Open classes (5 hours):

  • When what (dis)makes a city disappears – working with AI graphic editors to remove visual smog and discussing the identity of cities
  • When AI brings history to life – processing historical context into modern expression.
  • When pictures speak for those who are silent – Creating visual campaigns and comics on topics such as bullying and social media harassment.
  • When tradition meets AI: patterns for the future – connecting folklore and modern design through AI pattern generation.
  • When the voice of the past comes alive – using AI voice tools to bring historical figures to life and discussing the ethics of AI.

Workshop for teachers and guests:

  • AI in language work,
  • AI in teacher preparation for teaching,
  • AI in student work in the classroom

Panel discussion
Safety and the future of AI in education – an open debate with experts, teachers and guests on the benefits and risks of AI in the school environment.

Objectives of the open hours

  • to show the practical use of artificial intelligence in the classroom,
  • to encourage pupils’ creative and critical thinking,
  • Introduce peer-to-peer learning methods,
  • inspire teachers to integrate AI into different subjects.
1. When AI brings history to life

Pupils created digital profiles of historical figures using AI and an Instagram profile generator. In the first phase, they had to use AI to trace and sort information about selected historical figures. They then used the generator to create a profile about the personality that informed about his or her life. We also discussed how modern technology can assist in learning about the past.

2. When what (dis)makes a city disappears

Students identified visual smog and digital clutter in the urban environment (excessive advertising, cables, billboards, distractions) and prepared “before-after” versions using AI-enabled tools (e.g. generative completion/retouch). They then evaluated how modifications change perceptions of safety, orientation and aesthetics, and discussed the ethical boundaries of digital interventions. The activity linked computer science, art education and civics. Among other things, the students prepared quiz presentations for their classmates, based on which they researched and guessed what the city was like after the retouching and removal of its landmark.

3. When the voice of the past comes alive

Using tools such as MagicSchool.ai and ElevenLabs, the students generated authentic speeches by famous personalities and analysed their content and emotions. Pupils prepared not only the text for the generator, but also the emotions that the AI can process into a voice. The content was to generate text that encourages young people to fight for their dreams.

4. When pictures speak for those who are silent

Pupils created a ‘silent story’ on selected school topics using generative tools with consistent characters and settings. They then filled in bubbles/thoughts in a graphic editor to create a short comic that conveyed an emotion or situation without the spoken word

5. When tradition meets AI: patterns for the future

A fusion of folklore and artificial intelligence. Pupils brought traditional Slovak ornaments to life through graphic tools such as Adobe Firefly and Canva Mockups. They created different graphics applicable to different objects (clothing, promotional items, book covers, …) Together they created a portfolio that can be transformed into commercial items that can be sold on different portals.

Workshop and discussion: AI in language work, in teacher preparation for the lesson, in pupil work in the classroom. Safety and the future of AI in school and education

The workshop introduced the practical use of artificial intelligence in education. Participants learned about the ways AI can support teachers in planning, differentiation and assessment, as well as students in developing language skills and creativity. The workshop highlighted that AI has not come to replace the teacher, but to test the teacher’s ability to shape pupils’ thinking, curiosity and values. In the practical part, educators had the opportunity to see the generation of tasks according to the CEFR level, the creation of interactive exercises, differentiation for pupils with SEN, the use of tools such as Canva AI and NotebookLM or the creation of creative language activities using prompts.

Breaks with AI

During the project day, there were also so-called “AI breaks”, where pupils of the 3rd grade could playfully try out various applications with the support of artificial intelligence.

The activities were led by older Year 8 classmates – creating a peer-to-peer learning environment that fostered collaboration, responsibility and team spirit.

Evaluation

The AI Days event was judged to be a great success. Pupils showed a high level of interest in AI topics, demonstrating the ability to work creatively and critically with modern tools. The activities developed not only digital literacy but also creativity, teamwork and the ability to link traditional values with current technologies.

Teachers present at the open sessions appreciated the methodological support and the demonstrations of practical AI-supported activities, which they will further implement in their teaching subjects. The event also contributed to the development of a culture of innovation at the school and to strengthening cooperation between schools in the region.

Conclusion

AI days at the Private Primary School in Žilina confirmed that artificial intelligence can be a powerful tool for education if it is used creatively, responsibly and with respect to ethical principles. The event fulfilled its objectives and represents a significant contribution to the development of digital transformation of education at the regional level.

In the future, the school plans to continue to actively use all purchased licenses and AI tools in computer science, mathematics, and other subjects. The aim is to show that artificial intelligence is not a distant concept, but a practical helper for pupils and teachers, which makes the learning process more efficient, promotes creativity and develops critical thinking.

At the same time, the school will continue to promote AI through workshops, seminars and refresher training for teachers. These events will focus on the creative and responsible use of AI in practice, with the aim of spreading awareness of its benefits and translating it into everyday pedagogical reality.
