To celebrate the European Day of Languages, the seventh-graders embarked on an unconventional language journey across Europe. During their Spanish and German classes, they discovered that learning languages can be fun, creative, and full of new discoveries.
During the activities, they worked in as many as four languages—Slovak, English, Spanish, and German—while also connecting their language skills with geography. They worked with an interactive map and magnetic cards, named body parts in different languages, and discussed which statements about European countries were true and which were not.
Creativity was also part of the fun—the students made up stories using words that began with the same letter and put together Spanish and German words from individual letters. Through all these activities, they practiced not only their vocabulary but also teamwork, logical thinking, and geography.
The activity showed that languages are not just vocabulary and grammar, but also a way to learn about Europe, its countries, and its cultures.
