eTwinning Inside Out – How Does Our Body React to Movement?

As part of the Inside Out project, students participated in a hands-on mini-research project focused on how the human body works. They investigated how heart rate and respiratory rate change at rest and after physical activity, measuring, recording, and subsequently analyzing all the data themselves. They entered the results into a shared spreadsheet, which allowed them to compare their measurements with data from a partner school in the Czech Republic. While processing the data, they also gained hands-on practice calculating the arithmetic mean and discovered how mathematics is used in analyzing real-world data. At the end of the activity, the students were fascinated by world records showcasing the limits of human capabilities. They estimated how long world record holders could hold their breath and then compared their guesses with the actual records. The activity successfully integrated biology, mathematics, and digital collaboration. Through their own measurements, the students verified how the human body functions while also gaining new experience with data analysis and international comparison of results.
