On On 22 October 2025, our school hosted an exceptional event – AI days, which were part of a nationwide project of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic aimed at supporting digital transformation and the development of competencies for the 21st century. The aim of this event was to popularize artificial intelligence among pupils, teachers and the wider public, to show its possibilities in practice and at the same time to highlight the need for an ethical and responsible approach to new technologies.
During the day, five open lessons were held to show how artificial intelligence can be linked to different subjects in a meaningful and creative way. In the first lesson, “When AI brings history to life”, Year 8 pupils learned to critically engage with content from the internet. Using tools such as MagicSchool.ai and an image generator, they explored the lives and works of historical figures and displayed these on the Instagram profiles of these figures. In this way, we were not only learning how to find information, edit it, trace details and generate images using prompts that they had to style independently.
The second lesson “When what (makes) the city disappear” was devoted to the issue of visual smog in the urban environment. Students retouched photos of places affected by visual smog, removed distracting advertising elements and discussed how aesthetics and technology affect the quality of life in our streets. Among other things, they prepared a quiz for their classmates with edited photographs of world-famous cities from which they removed landmarks.
The third lesson “When the voice of the past comes alive” linked history, language and modern technology. Pupils brought to life the voices of important personalities of the past – using artificial intelligence to create texts with messages and generate voices with emotions. The activity showed how AI can help understand history from a different perspective and create an emotional connection to the past.
In the fourth lesson, “When Pictures Speak for the Silent”, pupils tried their hand at using AI tools to create digital stories. They generated characters, settings and storylines with an emphasis on consistency of visuals, while developing their empathy, creativity and ability to convey emotions through images and text on a variety of complicated topics that young people deal with.
The fifth lesson “When tradition meets AI: models for the future” linked art education, computer science and regional culture. Pupils used generative tools to bring traditional folk patterns to life, which they then fed into modern designs in Canva. The result was original visuals that showed that technology can also be a means of preserving cultural heritage in a new, creative context.
The event also included “AI breaks”, during which 3rd grade pupils could try out various fun applications of artificial intelligence, drawing, creating animated characters or bringing characters to life through the camera. These short activities contributed to a relaxed and creative atmosphere in which pupils learned through discovery, play and experimentation.
AI days at our school were also visited by representatives of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic and the National Institute of Education and Youth (NIVAM), who appreciated the modern approach of the school, practical demonstrations of the use of artificial intelligence and the active involvement of students and teachers in individual activities.
In the afternoon, the guests and the teachers listened to a lecture on how AI can help teachers in preparing lessons and students in independent work. There was also information on differentiating teaching content with AI, assessment and grading or interactivity of worksheets and activities.
The AI team at our school managed to deliver a truly varied, inspiring and professionally valuable programme. The AI days at our school confirmed that the combination of education, creativity and technology brings not only new knowledge, but also motivation and the joy of discovery.
The response from pupils, teachers and visitors was extremely positive and the school plans to follow up on the AI theme with further activities and projects in the coming term.
