The start of the school year is usually full of new experiences, expectations, and sometimes even a slight sense of awe at the vast world of school for first-graders. To make this transition as pleasant as possible for them, our ninth-graders once again enthusiastically took on the role of guardian angels.
Each ninth-grader was assigned one or even two first-graders to look after. Their main role is to serve as a source of support, guidance, and, above all, older friends for their younger classmates—people they can turn to at any time.
We broke the ice with an opening activity called “The Wall of Emotions.” Together, the students explored, identified, and shared the various feelings that come with the first days of school. This created an atmosphere full of understanding, smiles, and mutual trust.
We are overjoyed to see beautiful and inspiring friendships blossom right before our eyes. For the ninth-graders, this is a wonderful lesson in responsibility and empathy, while the first-graders gain the assurance that they are never alone at school.
