On 5 May 2025, our school hosted an extremely stimulating lecture for 8th grade pupils, led by the well-known journalist and media expert Vladimír Šnídl. The topic of the lecture was social networks, their influence on young people and important principles of protection from the pitfalls of the digital environment.
Mr Šnídl gave an engaging presentation on how social media algorithms work, what content is displayed and why, and how these platforms affect their perception of the world, interpersonal relationships and psychological well-being. He also focused on phenomena such as misinformation, cyberbullying and addiction to likes and notifications. There was also specific advice on how to protect one’s privacy, set up a safe profile or behave responsibly in the online space.
The lecture sparked a lively discussion among the pupils and prompted many to reflect on their own behaviour on the Internet. We believe that meeting an expert like Vladimír Šnídl will contribute to their better understanding of the digital world and strengthen their media literacy.
We thank Mr. Šnídl for his time, expertise and access to the young audience.
